Summary coming from the work itself: "Many studies highlight the philosophical influences that Paulo Freire would have received throughout his life. While discussing whether he is or not a philosopher, numerous studies, also in Brazil but especially abroad, seek to identify "the philosophy of Paulo Freire," understanding by that the philosophical background that could better explain his ideas. In this article we follow a different strategy. Based on a reading proposed by M. Foucault, we insert Paulo Freire in a philosophical tradition initiated by Socrates and the ancient Cynics in which the central problem is life as "a form of being and at the same time as a form of ethics and heroism."(FOUCAULT, 2011, p. 196) As a result, we offer a Paulo Freire in which his life cannot be separated from his thought and his philosophical life is itself his main educating force."
